You Can’t Believe Everything You Hear About Ednalee, Oklahoma

Yesterday, we took a peek at the New Year’s resolutions made by some of the residents of Levi, Oklahoma, including Darcy Campbell and Flora Tucker. Today, we travel over to Ednalee and see what Ned McNeil and some of her friends are resolving for the brand new year of 2019.

Miss Ann: I thought I’d grown too old to make resolutions. Why, pshaw! Who knows if I’ll be here at the end of the year? But then, I thought, Why not? So, here goes: I plan to try really hard to put the past behind me and not look back at those sad years when I was actually nearly kept as a prisoner in my own house. I resolve each day to be thankful for God’s blessings, the chief one being that I live next door to Javin Granger’s niece, Ned McNeil.

Pat Mills: Jackie and Ned are always telling me I’m superstitious. Although I really don’t think I am, I’ll try to do a better job about my dread of black cats crossing in front of me or breaking a mirror. Or, recently, what a blue moon can lead to. Now, I’m not superstitious (truly, I’m not) but anyone would agree that blue moon last March led to some mighty weird happenings. So, my resolutions is I will not be led by any superstitious nonsense. I mean it!

Jackie Murray: Pat’s right–I do think she’s superstitious, but even I will have to admit that some of the people in Ednalee last March seemed to have a particularly evil streak. And, there were two full moons that month, but something really good happened that month too. I’m going to keep it to myself for a while, but I believe it will be one of the best decisions Ron and I have ever made. I resolve not to be suspicious of my husband ever again.

Cade Morris: I’ve happened upon some strange things in this little town during the time I’ve been chief of police, but none of them were any stranger than the happenings last March. And, guess who was right in the middle of things? Ned! I gave her a phone holster so she wouldn’t be running off and forgetting it, but it’ll take more than a phone to keep her out of trouble. If I were honest, though, I’d admit I wouldn’t change Ned McNeil for anything in the world. She was always a handful, even when she was a kid, and she’s no different now. So, I resolve to stay quite a bit closer to her from now on. That lady needs a keeper!

Ned McNeil: Coming back to my hometown from Atlanta was the best decision I’ve ever made. I re-connected with childhood friends and made some new ones too. I’ve always been curious about people and had sympathy for the elderly and those who are mostly over-looked by society. Last March, though, my sympathetic heart nearly got me killed. There’s one thing I learned from that experience: things are not always as they seem to be. In fact, I might go so far as to say they are Never as they seem. I’m just glad we all made it through in one piece and I resolve not to let my heart rule my head in the future.
