Wrens, Cozies, and Saunterings

Wrens, Cozies, and Saunterings

This morning, a wren came to visit. She didn’t come inside, just to the front porch. She lit on the window ledge, peeked in at me, hopped onto the porch support and flew away. I’ve seen her or her mate around all summer. Is she checking the progress of my next book? Is she thinking about flying South? Do wrens migrate? I’ll have to check it out.

She may feel in her little feathered heart that winter is coming because the temperature is hovering at forty-seven degrees this morning. Nippy! The first cup of Folgers is particularly welcome on a morning like this and I’ve even considered lighting the fireplace. Really, I have.

As I saunter into Saturday (I won’t say “streel” because that means sort of aimlessly wandering) I consider the current Darcy and Flora. Jane sent some good ideas for a title. My publisher suggested Stirring the Plot but that title has already been taken by Daryl Wood Gerber. Some of Jane’s ideas: The Lost Tombstone, The Forgotten Grave, Cemetery Spirits. All nice titles. But, I’m still looking.

Peg likes Sheila Connolly and I’ve read a couple of her books that I enjoyed. So, I checked out One Bad Apple from the library. Sometimes reading inspires me to write.

But now I’ve got to get on with Darcy and Flora. Reading cozies gets me in a cozy mood, which I’m usually in but there comes a time when fingers must meet computer keys in order to reach a deadline. At the moment, Darcy has met the new preacher, Trace Hughes, in a rather unorthodox fashion, found one dead body beside a burning shack, and is searching her heart for remnants of love. Now, that would be a good title! But this is a cozy, not a Victorian romance.

Anyway, cold weather does put one in the mood for cozy mysteries, hot chocolate or hot coffee, fireplaces and favorite easy chairs. How about you?

  1. Well, it’s 39* here this morning, Blanche, so bask in your warmth!! A month from now, this would be described as a heatwave.

Yep, for sure. And I just finished reading A Black Cat Crossing by Kay Finch that was especially
    intriguing.
