I can imagine it–an early day family, perhaps some of my Cherokee ancestors–sitting inside their warm house, hearth fire blazing, wind howling outside sounding eerily like the howl of a wolf. Wolves would be hungry this time of year, searching for prey that may have been hibernating safely in trees or caves. Sometimes, the wolves themselves might come much too close for comfort, sniffing around homes, hunting for something to eat.
Wolves still prowl in the wild, and the wind still blows and the full moon still shines down upon earth. It puts one in the mind for a story about the moon and how it might affect human or animal behavior. This idea was the springboard for my four moonlight cozy mysteries. It’s not that bad things seem to follow Ned McNeil and she certainly isn’t superstitious, but her friend Pat is. And, Pat is certain that the puzzling activities of the people in a certain small Oklahoma town are due to the influence of a full moon. What do you think?
