Changeable March
Unbridled, unsaddled, unfettered, and free
Thundering through the sky,
Shaking and waking each slumbering tree,
March comes galloping by.
For one moment, stormy, the next moment still,
Basking in morning sun,
Fractious, then gentle, he changes until
Spring has truly begun.
–Blanche Day Manos
This morning, that’s exactly what March is doing–the wind is blowing and sounds like a horse or a whole herd of horses galloping around the yard! Yesterday was such a pleasant, sunny day. Oh, well! St. Pat’s Day is on the way, and after that, Easter. So, warm weather can’t be far behind.
Isn’t it amazing that early spring flowers, including my daffodil by the mailbox, are going to bloom no matter whether they find the world agreeable or not. They are the Pollyannas of the world of flowers. The trees may be bare of new leaves, the ground, brown and hard, the sky could loom over them threateningly but those brave little souls push out of the ground and blossom because that’s the way the Lord made them.
Writers may suffer setbacks. Rejection letters could fill the mailbox; sales could go down, but writers are going to write, no matter what! Except when that dread disease called mogigraphia sets in. Mogigraphia is simply finger cramps from holding a pencil too long but I’m talking about mogigraphia of the mind, commonly known as writer’s block. Do you ever go merrily along in your chosen plans for the day, and suddenly, you seem to hit a mental roadblock? That happens to writers sometimes. I’ve found the best cure is not to let that roadblock stop me and it shouldn’t stop you. Just keep going–over it, around it, under it, through it. If it refuses to budge, deal with the miserable thing! My best cure for writer’s block is simply To Write!
And, by the way, this is National Reading Month. Now, how in the world can we have National Reading Month without writers? Answer: we can’t. So, while March is thundering around outside like a herd of wild horses, settle in by the fire, grab a cup of hot coffee, put your feet up, and lose yourself in your favorite cozy mystery. The best way to support a writer is to read!
Today is special because it’s the day of the Cozy Critique. My reading and writing friends and I will gather around the old cherry wood table and share thoughts, suggestions, laughs, cookies and coffee as we contribute to National Reading Month. I hope your day is blessed with the warmth of friendship too.
This morning’s Scripture reading contained a verse which stood out for me with special meaning: I Samuel 2:9, “For by strength shall no man prevail.”
Dear Blanche,
Recently I cleared out my email and accidentally deleted your post I was saving to read. It mentioned a devotional. Would you be willing to send me that link again.
Best regards,

Randy, I’ll be quite willing to send you the link. I’m not sure which email it was as I have written several devotionals for my blog: blanchedaymanos.com. If you will go to my site and check through, it is still on the website, I’m sure. Thanks for reading.
