Tell Me Why
We don’t understand and ask how can it be? Is there a reason behind all we see?
I wonder about lots of things. “Why” is always on the tip of my tongue. You have your own list of whys. The older I get, the more I wonder. Some of my whys are serious, some are frivolous. But, here they are (and it’s only a partial list.)
One thing I’ve wondered about is the placement of garages on newer houses. About ninety-per cent of the time, the garage is on the front of the house, big, usually white, and obvious. I’m glad to have my garage, but I think it is the most unattractive part of the house. Why do builders insist on building it so that it’s the first thing I notice?
Why aren’t all Americans glad and thankful to live in America? Why isn’t everyone proud of our heritage and the light of freedom we represent to many countries?
Why did Noah allow mosquitoes on the ark?
Why do some people willingly sell their souls for prestige, power, or pleasure? Or money?
Why do I enjoy the sound of a small airplane but a jet engine gives me the shivers?
Why do I love the sound of rain but the sound of wind makes me apprehensive?
Why do I love history and abhor the re-writing of it so that it fits the current narrative? Why cannot everyone have respect for courage in the face of insurmountable odds?
Why am I so blessed by people who love me when I have done nothing at all to earn their love?
My list of “whys” goes on and on and I’m sure you have your list. Sometimes I find answers to my question and sometimes I never do. Perhaps it is all summed up in what the philosopher-king said in Ecclesiastes 12:13-14:
After all this, there is only one thing to say: Have reverence for God, and obey his commands, because this is all that we were created for.14God is going to judge everything we do, whether good or bad, even things done in secret.
I believe Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 is the right answer. But I still wonder about many things. Paul has said that I’m the most curious person he knows. When I find the answers it makes me glad I wondered. Most of my wondering is about nature. The more I learn, the more I am amazed and appreciative of this world God created!
Thanks for writing, Teresa. I, too, wonder about so many things. It’s good to be curious, whether we find the answers or not.
