Tom Swifties are fun to think up. They’re also a good way to go to sleep if that’s a problem at night–better than counting sheep. This morning, I thought I’d try writing some Tom Swifties for mystery stories. Some of them are sort of a stretch, I admit.
“Not a star nor the moon in sight tonight,” Tom said darkly.
“The knife had a sharp edge,” Tom said cuttingly.
“The empty house looks spooky,” Tom said hauntingly.
“Only a pretty smart detective could figure out this mystery,” Tom said knowingly.
“His shirt looks recently ironed,” Tom said crisply.
“She spoke distinctly,” Tom said clearly.
“Quick, hand me the sunglasses,” Tom said brightly.
“That cold, wet night gave me a bad case of the shivers,” Tom said chillingly.
“I have never been this nervous,” Tom said tensely.
“It was so dark, I couldn’t see the clock,” Tom said dimly.
Now, it’s your turn.
