When You Read

When you read a book, what are you expecting to find? If, within a few pages, you find misspellings, poor choice of words to describe a scene or person, one grammatical error after the other, do you keep reading?  If the author of the book lets you in on what other characters are thinking, jumping from one character’s thoughts to the next in the same conversation, does it bother you? Do you close the book and say, Not for me, or do you keep reading?

If you keep reading, why do you? Do you want to know who the bad guy is and you must read the whole book to find out? And, after you’ve closed the book, what sort of feeling do you have? Have you ever read a book that, for one reason or the other, has colored your day?

Any book, no matter how poorly written, represents hours, days, months spent writing it. For many people, this particular book was worthwhile and praiseworthy, according to the reviews. No, I never write a poor review, because I know all about the time and the huge part of herself an author invests in each book and would never name the book or author. So, maybe it’s just me. Maybe I’m just a grumpy old woman.
