The maple in the front yard is looking wet, brown, and droopy. Leaves are scattered across the lawn. A light rain falls. It looks like Thanksgiving, but it doesn’t feel like Thanksgiving. It’s too warm. And, how is Thanksgiving supposed to be feel? Colder, maybe a few snowdrifts heaped here and there. That’s my mental picture of Thanksgiving. But, that’s a childish, school book image.
Thanksgiving is much more than that. We have a lot to be thankful for. Yes, I know about all the negative stuff, but get shed of it for a moment. We still live in a wonderful, free country. Freedoms are limited right now, but, hopefully, the virus pandemic will lift. Returning to normal would be a great blessing.
This Thanksgiving, I’m thankful for freedom, for my country, for my family and dear friends, for being able to pray and praise. I’m thankful that, when the big day comes, we’ll be able to sit down together at my mother’s hundred-year old table and enjoy having shelter and food, and, most of all, love.
Yes, we have a lot for which to be thankful.
