Seismologists recorded fourteen earthquakes in Oklahoma since Friday! Not California nor some place overseas but right next door in my home state of Oklahoma! Was I reading the news story correctly? Have I not had enough coffee to open my eyes? This, of course, reminds me of the second Darcy/Flora cozy, Grave Shift. In that book, set in Oklahoma, two earthquakes figured largely in the plot. But the report yesterday was not fiction, it was real.
The temperature this morning is thirty-nine and that’s great-it’s above freezing. A few hyacinths are blooming and the jonquils and daffodils are beautiful. People are sneezing, eyes are watering. Could it be that spring is really here?
Despite the inviting temperatures, a writer must write! In my new cozy, Moonlight Can Be Murder, yesterday Nettie came up against some strangely worded wills. Yes, as in last will and testament. Will they hold legal water? She’s got to know because, either way, they will greatly affect her life.
Thinking of spring puts me in mind of getting things spruced up for warm weather. A few days ago, I decided to replace the bulb in my porch light which had been out for a while. Taking off the cover and screwing in the new bulb was easy, but then came putting the cover back on. My only wish concerning that futile attempt would be that the manufacturer of the whole porch light would have to take it off and put it on and do so within the time constraints of one hour or I would get my money back. If a screw came out of a small hole, it should go back in, right? One side of the black metal cover cooperated but the other side didn’t seem to know what it was supposed to do. The screw that the company provided was about l/4 of an inch too short. Peg saw me struggling with it and came over to help. She and I worked until we were exhausted and finally, I decided that maybe the shade would stay up with one screw. So far, it’s holding.
And, after those ramblings, let me remind you that this is the Lord’s Day and there’s no better place to be this morning than His house. May your day be blessed with sunshine and spring flowers, an absence of earthquakes and an abundance of joy.
This is the day that the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it.
Exactly, Missy!
