So, What’s With That Dream, Anyhow?

So, What’s With That Dream, Anyhow?

Do you believe that dreams have significance? I don’t know about your dreams but my dreams are often a mishmash of a niggling worry, a fervent hope, something I heard someone say, or people who have been or are in my life. I don’t think any of them give me a message. But, sometimes people and things from many years gone by show up in my dreams and I’m left thinking, “Where’d you come from, anyway?”

The other night I had a dream that was a little bit of my past and a little bit of a concern and quite a bit of just plain silly. I want to share it with you.

I was back in Tahlequah in my dream, on College Street in fact. I was watching a house being torn down. Now, in actuality, that was house was torn down a number of years ago. It is no longer there. It was a white, wood house, rather like my parents’ but not theirs. Their house is not on College Street. Well, little by little the boards came off and things that were inside were taken out. Someone found some ceramic knickknacks that had the name “Blanche” on them.

“Oh, I’ve got to buy those,” I said. “I wonder if the woman who lived here was named Blanche too?”

Evidently, there was a garage sale going on at the same time the house was being taken apart. Sort of doing both things at once.

OK. Finally, the house demolishers got to the ceiling. They removed the sheetrock and there, between the ceiling supports and the rafters was a bright homemade quilt. It was being used as part of the insulation.Quilt

What happened next? I don’t know. There, my dream ended! But, it was interesting, wasn’t it? Now, why in the world would I dream something so completely off the wall as that? Only The Shadow might know but I think this one would keep even him guessing. Heh heh.

Comments

  1. Dreams can be very strange! The other night I was dreaming something (can’t even remember) but I woke up, went to the washroom, fell back to sleep, and continued my dream. You can imagine how Daniel felt after having some of his dreams!!

    • I have occasionally had a dream that resumed after wakening too, Sharon. Yes, dreams are strange and some of them are so vivid, they stay with us forever! And there’s Joseph. He had a lot of courage to interpret the pharoah’s dream. In those instances, the dreams certainly did mean something.

  2. Hope you don’t mind another comment but when I thought of Daniel, I thought of something my grandfather wrote in my autograph book when I was a child. (Remember those books?)
    “Dare to be a Daniel
    Dare to stand alone
Dare to hold a purpose firm
    Dare to make it known.”
I don’t know why but that has always stayed in my mind. Enjoy your day, Blanche.

    • Thank you, Sharon. That little verse is full of wisdom. Today, we need a lot more Daniels. He was an exceptionally brave man and was not afraid to say he believed in God. Your grandfather was very wise.
