Before I turn on the news each morning, I wonder what terrible thing has happened most recently? I wonder what next? And, I turn on the news less and less often because it seems a sort of madness is sweeping parts of the country and I can’t do a thing about it.
You may or may not agree with the two Supreme Court decisions this week. I don’t. You see, my problem is when a country makes lawful what God declares unlawful, I wonder how long He is going to have patience. I wonder, what next?
Why can’t those nine people who comprise the court simply say that some decisions are best left to individual states? Why must, in the first case six people and in the second case, five people, decide for millions?
The first Supreme Court Decision I remember that directly contradicted God’s Word was Roe v. Wade. The Bible says Thou shalt not kill. But the court said it’s okay if the baby is not yet born and is unwanted. Since that decision, between five and six million children have died legally by a decision of our government.
And, not to let a good crisis go to waste (who was it said that?) after the tragedy in Charleston and the exemplary way the victims’ families handled it, somehow that was not enough. From that awful mass murder sprang a dormant hatred of all things pertaining to the defeated Confederacy. That was a mighty big leap in credulity but, amazingly, many politicians were eager to make it. The tyranny of hatred knows no bounds and I ask myself, what next?
A Bible verse came to mind this morning. It is the Lord’s words recorded in Matthew 24:27, “But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of Man be.” And I wonder, is that next?
I’m not going to post a blog tomorrow morning. I need to sort of re-charge my batteries and think a lot of positive thoughts and pray. But, Lord willing, I’ll be writing again Monday. And, by the way, I don’t believe I’ll ask that question, What next? At the moment, I really don’t want to know.
“The Lord bless thee, and keep thee; The Lord make His face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee; The Lord lift up His countenance upon thee, and give thee peace” (Numbers 6:24-26).

Sometimes a person does have to take a day off from the ‘world.’ I think all of us wonder, what next? How can it get any worse? The days of Noah came to a climax so it seems logical that these wicked days would too.
Have you checked out The Cozy Cat Chronicles blog? You would be a good guest. Or, maybe you have already been asked. I hope so.
Thank you for commenting, Sharon. Yes, the things that are happening are chilling and they are happening fast. Yes, the Cozy Cat Chronicles blog is pretty neat! No, I haven’t been asked to guest blog but certainly would be willing.
Amen. I just said those same verses when talking with my husband about this.
Thank goodness we have the Bible to lean on, Deb. Thank you for writing.
