What Nemo Has Taught Me

In these fourteen years, I like to think I’ve taught Nemo a lot but I know for sure, that he has taught me more!

Food is good. Enjoy it!  But try to remember, it’s best to chew before swallowing.

Relaxation is also good for mind and spirit and legs; be prepared to relax at every opportunity.

Each new day is a gift; meet it with enthusiasm and eagerness and a tail wag, if you have one.

When failing to catch an elusive prize (squirrel), put failure behind you and be alert to the next opportunity.

There are plenty of sights to be seen and scents to be smelled even on a short jaunt to the mailbox.

Always be alert to new experiences; meet them with a happy dance or if this isn’t appropriate, ignore.

Unpleasant things that can’t be avoided (a trip to the vet) are best dealt with as graciously as possible; don’t snap or growl.

Understand that no one is perfect and when a slight occurs (running out of treats) it’s best to forgive and move on.

Be grateful for the essentials, like shelter, a warm bed, good food, kind words, pats, and hugs.

Obstacles will occur  (snow, a leash, rain, mud) in the path of a desired goal (squirrels) but keep on keeping on.

Mysteries are everywhere and curiosity is a good thing but be careful when poking a nose into mysterious holes in the ground.

Listen carefully when someone is sharing something that is important; perk up the ears, lift the head, and stare at them.

Don’t bark when you should be quiet.

Don’t dwell on past failures and don’t hold grudges; life is too short and exciting to look back.

Meet each day with a wag and a woof and shining eyes, looking forward to fun, food, friends, and frolic.

Comments

  1. Great Advice! Buster is always eager to rush outside and run around the tree to try to catch an elusive squirrel! Listening to someone sometimes is hard since I have mild to moderate hearing loss, so sometimes I have to ask for the person to repeat themself.

    • Our dogs keep us energized, don’t they? And, they are such fun. Meet a fellow sufferer on the hearing loss. I have one too.

  2. Thank you, Nemo! You’re a GOOD boy!
