Wednesday Wanderings

Tiny Tim used to sing, “Tiptoe Through the Tulips with Me”. I haven’t seen any tulips blooming yet, but I invite you to tiptoe through Wednesday with me. It may be a meandering journey because my mind has a tendency to jump from one thought to another with no connecting links between.

Yesterday, I read something about Troubles. We all have them. There’s no way to get through life without them, but sometimes I need to look beyond my problems to the source of the solution. Looking only at the problem is like looking at myself in the mirror. All I see is myself; I can’t see anyone else. Problems are like that. Looking at them just reflects them and I can’t see any solution. It’s really a free-ing thing to simply quit thinking about that pesky trouble that I don’t know what to do with and leave it with God. He can take care of it and I can’t, so why should I worry?

Of course, I think of my two heroines, Darcy and Flora, and my other, developing heroine, Nettie. Now, these gals do not see the mystery and start wringing their hands. Not these intrepid sleuths! They start looking for answers. They find one clue which leads to another, and then, there they are, with  a solution that may be a complete surprise to everyone, including the ladies mentioned. It also helps that my heroines are Christians and they believe that the Lord leads them!

Speaking of troubles and problems, aren’t we glad for erasers? And for editors! Writers need both, at least this writer does. Sometimes a writer’s story has a trouble spot she is unaware of (that is, a typo or an incongruous statement). The writer goes blithely on her way, one word tripping after the other. This is where the editor comes in. Her trained eye has no emotional tie to the story nor any of the words. She is like a surgeon, slicing off one offending sentence, putting in a healthier one, making recommendations for a more successful outcome. I really don’t see how any writer can produce a work of quality without a good editor and a good critique group. My group of Cozy Crittters are worth their weight in gold. My writing is much better because of them.

Here’s another song by McHugh and D. Fields, and another thought that I plan to take as I wander through Wednesday, “Grab your coat and get your hat, leave your worry at the doorstep. Just direct your feet to the sunny side of the street.”
