Some of us have reached the enviable stage of being VPs or Vintage Persons. Vintage, of course, means top of the line, quality, and something that only years can bring. Provenance! That’s what VPs have.
Vintage Persons know what we like and don’t like and VPs like cozy mysteries. I don’t mean that younger people don’t like them–many of them do; but, VPs are especially tuned into the mystery and coziness.
A cozy mystery just naturally seems to call for a comfortable chair, a crackling fire, and a cup of coffee. In between our busy activities, this is right up a VPs alley. In fact, to us Vintage Persons, solving the mystery of identifying the culprit is more fun than a crossword puzzle or a trip to the mall.
We know, of course, that in a cozy, most of the violence happens off screen, so to speak. And, that’s fine with us. By the time we reach the vintage stage, most VPs have witnessed more than enough violence by way of the television, movies, and newspapers. Through the years, we’ve accumulated a lot of curiosity about unsolved cases and a belief that justice and decency are of utmost value. We like to unravel mysteries and we like for the good guys to win.
Moonlight and mayhem, a stormy night and a mysterious stranger, a package hidden in an old well–these are enough to pique the interest of a VP. In fact, some of us are so entranced with cozy mysteries that we’ve taken up writing our own.
