Victorian Thompson House

Victorian Thompson House

Last night as I sat at my desk watching the last remnants of sunshine flee the sky, I thought back on the day and its blessings. On Tuesday I visited with many dear people, met two cousins who have recently moved into Tahlequah, and talked with Beth and Jim at the Thompson House. That’s the site of last weekend’s Victorian Christmas.  I had placed several of my cozy mysteries there and am pleased that they sold well.

The Thompson House holds a special place in my heart. Many years ago, when I was writing for the Tahlequah Daily Press, I wrote a story on the Thompson House. Sadly neglected and far from its original beauty, it faced an uncertain future. I like to think that my article helped bring the once-lovely landmark to everyone’s attention. Civic minded people set to work, volunteers donated time, money, and materials, and with a whole lot of tender loving care, that two story Victorian was restored to its original beauty.

When I wrote Moonlight Can Be Murder, I had the Thompson House in mind as I described Uncle Javin’s home. Some houses built during the 1800s are dark and maybe a little gloomy. Not the Thompson House! Many windows, a sunroom, and careful planning resulted in a home that is sunny, bright, and invites the visitor to come in and feel at ease.

Yesterday, the sun shone, friends and family were warm and welcoming, and it was altogether a very satisfying day. Today, I meet with the Cozy Critters and we’ll share insights, helpful hints, and updates on all things literary (and a few things that aren’t). I suspect it will be another satisfactory day.

Didn’t know you were in town. I would have come by.

  2. I wish I could have visited with you. Never enough time but I need to make time!
