Tuesday Morning Thoughts

One of the hard things about finishing a book is keeping hands off while the dust settles. Do you know what I mean? I have a tendency to go over and over the manuscript, adding a word, taking out a phrase, just picking at it when actually, I should give it and my mind a break. Then, when I look at it again, I can see more critically from the distance of several days. Sort of clears the mind. But, just between you and me, my fingers are itching to get back into the third Ned McNeil moonlight book,  Moonstruck and Murderous.

When leaves are beginning to turn color and the wind whispers about the secrets of the seasons, what better way to enjoy those days than with a grandchild? In my mind, there’s no better way. Have you ever tried stirring up no-bake cookie dough? It’s a lot of fun, especially when you add a few of your favorite ingredients that the recipe doesn’t call for, like peanut butter and chocolate chips and butterscotch chips. And, if being indoors doesn’t suit your fancy, it’s fun to wander through the back yard, noticing how the trees and bushes don’t look quite the same. What is this tree with the pretty red berries? Is it a wild cherry? And, far below the tree, on the ground were these minute berries. What in the world are they? One thing for sure is that the seasons are changing and so are the flowers and trees.

Today is a special day! The Cozy Critters are coming. How did I ever get so blessed with such a great bunch? I don’t know, but let me tell you, I’m glad. Each woman is talented but also a warm and trusted friend. And, they are busy! Writing, drawing, reading, and caring for those who are ill. I can hardly wait to hear what each one has been up to.

My fall gourds have reappeared, as they do each year. On the mantel, in the living room, they bring a further touch of fall into the house. And, I? Well, I just savor each day, being glad for the blessings.
