The porch swing was a good place to sit this morning. A bit chilly, but nice. Sunlight poked golden fingers through the tangled leaves of the trees. In the distance, a dove called. The robins were silent, too busy to do much chirping. The squirrels, never too busy for a wild romp, chased each other across the grass and up the maple tree. It was nice to sit on the deck and just think about things.
Things like–books and writing and reading, and why mysteries are my favorite genre. Is it because I’ve always wanted to know why? Why did she or he say or do such a thing? Why do things happen as they do and why are we such complex and secretive beings? You’re not secretive, you say? Oh, but I think we all are to a certain extent. It seems to me that we all have a core that we share with no one but God. And, that’s the way it should be. He knows all about us and probably no one else would want to know or would care if they did.
And then, I thought about my books and the people within those books–Darcy and Flora and that cozy mystery series, Ned McNeil and the Moonlight series. These everyday sleuths are curious too and wanting to know the why behind the obvious is what gets them into trouble.
One of my favorite books is Grave Heritage. I like the way it opens with a bang…someone banging on the door in the middle of the night during a fierce thunderstorm. And, I like the way Darcy and Flora want to know the why behind the stranger’s abrupt visit and departure. Later, why was he killed? Why does the new preacher have few credentials? Why?
Apex has put together a book trailer for Grave Heritage. If you’d like to see it, just click on this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=krzo14pLp5g&feature=youtu.be
So, the day begins…Tuesday morning coming down. I hope you find many pleasant happenings, scattered like sunbeams throughout your day, and if you want to know the “why” behind an event, may the answer be a happy one.
