So far this month, I’ve called a plumber, Roto Rooter, and an air conditioner man. I’ve learned not to ask, “What next?” I’m just grateful that, for the moment at least, everything seems to be fixed. That’s not to say no other chores await me because they do. Painting, fixing this, replacing that, all need to be done and stare at me accusingly each time I glance their way. This morning, however, my first thing will be to mop my kitchen. That cannot wait! I’ve found that I get needed inspiration while mopping with a rag, a sudsy bucket, and on my knees!
Mopping on my knees, since I’m already down there anyway, is a good time to pray. And, just as my swipes with a cloth cleans a swath at a time, my soul is cleansed by emptying all my worries, frustrations, hopes, and sins before the Lord and letting him take care of them.
Anyway, I’m thankful I can still get down on my knees and, more important, that I can still get back up! We 1940s models are kind of like my house, although my house isn’t quite that old. We need some repair and a lot of maintenance, but we keep on keeping on. And, by the way, equally like my house, we’re worth it!! Right?
While I’m attacking the dirt that dared make its way to my floor, I think about the current cozy mystery I’m writing. How does moonlight figure into the murders that are happening in Ednalee, Oklahoma? Does moonlight really trigger base impulses or is it no more dangerous than the old well standing sedately in the yard of Granger Mansion? And, by the way, just how harmless is that well? Is Ned on the right track with her suspicions of who the murderer is or is it someone she does not yet suspect?
I’m expecting a lot out of my mopping chore. I mean, think of all the things accomplished while I’m on my knees. I just hope that my close association with the floor doesn’t reveal something else that needs to be fixed.
I liked your comment about being a “1940’s model” — probably because I qualify too.
Thanks, Helen. We are indeed rare and precious items and, although we are to be valued highly for our longevity and wisdom, we are pretty tough and get a lot done!! (Heh)
