Today is the Birthday

Today is the Birthday

This is the birthday of someone very near, dear, and special to me. An old birthday song keeps playing in my head, “Today is the birthday, I wonder of whom; I know it’s for someone who’s right in this room. So, look all around you for somebody who is smiling and happy–my goodness! It’s you.”

This song came from an old radio show for children called “Big John and Sparky.” It was popular in the 1950s. I loved that show! Long before television, when movies were only a rare treat, this program delighted the hearts of children everywhere. I can still recall the voice of Big John, even after all these years so he must have made an impression. Does anybody else remember?

We are like stones rolling downhill, picking up experiences as we go. Some of those experiences stick; some don’t. Some make such an impression, they cling through the decades and so it was with Big John and Sparky. IMG_0326Birthdays are signposts along the way, sometimes changing our directions, sometimes marking that we are on the right path. But that birthday I’m celebrating today? It did both! Happy birthday, Matt.

  2. Thanks, Deb. Years pass by so quickly. I’m reminded of that old song, “Enjoy Yourself”. Do you remember it? “Enjoy yourself, it’s later than you think. The years go by more swiftly than a wink.” How true that is!
