Thunder Prowling Through the Darkness

Thunder Prowling Through the Darkness

Thunder, somewhere above me, is prowling through the darkness like a wild animal. Rain is great to sleep by, but here I am, wide awake and ready for morning.

Family and friends in South Carolina and Florida are on the alert, preparing to evacuate if the hurricane warrants it. Wild and wicked weather is on the move. It pays to take storm warnings seriously.

Looking back and thinking about past happenings on this day, on October 5 in 1877 , Chief Joseph of the Nez Perce Indians, surrendered to  U. S. soldiers.  “Hear me, my chiefs: My heart is sick and sad,”said Chief Joseph.  “From where the sun now stands, I will fight no more forever.” 004

I need look no further than Chief Joseph for an example of courage and nobility and a people who were victims of an enormous wrong. Valor under persecution; that was Chief Joseph of the Nez Perce.

Rain makes this a good day for staying indoors, for writing cozy mysteries and reading cozy mysteries. I’ve started reading Carolyn Hart’s newest book, just out a few days ago. Ghost Times Two is another winner. I can hardly wait to continue the book and yet, I don’t want to finish because it’s going to be a while until the next one.

Carolyn is a fellow Oklahoma writer. She generously furnished a blurb for the back of Grave Heritage. Carolyn is a wonderfully talented writer and an all-around nice person.

Appealing sleuths Darcy and Fora refuse to be defeated and their determination makes the difference between life and death in Blanche Day Manos’s absorbing Grave Heritage. A delight for readers.”  — Carolyn Hart, best-selling author of Ghost Times Two.

So begins another day as fall starts to feel more at home. Squirrels are busy storing acorns from a bountiful harvest. We’re watching the sky for weather and listening to the television for news of the advancing hurricane. Whatever your day holds, I hope it includes many blessings and a few happy surprises.
