That Elusive Fragrance of Autumn

That Elusive Fragrance of Autumn

Have you noticed a new scent in the air, the smell of damp leaves, damp earth, nippy mornings and something else that can’t be defined? I call it the mysterious fragrance of autumn. November sweeps summer away and sets up residence with an invigorating sense of purpose,

If you stayed up late last night watching election returns, as I did, you may be a bit sleepy this morning. However, something as momentous as a Presidential election is worth the missed sleep. I found the whole thing fascinating. I’ve never seen the lines as long as they were yesterday when I went to vote. I stood in line a long time but I chatted with a few people and that made time pass quickly.

I’m praying for harmony in our Nation, that we work together, respect and value each other and our differences and emphasize each individual’s worth. Each person is unique, interesting, and worth getting to know. If we were all alike, thought alike, liked the same things, spoke the same way, looked at life just as everyone else does, it’d be a dull world.

Today, I’m looking forward to a visit with the Cozy Critters. This group of ladies illustrates all that is good with America. We don’t look, speak, or act the same and we have varying ideas but we like each other. We respect and value different thoughts and input. Let me tell you, that is very helpful to a writer who needs constructive critiques when writing a book.

These ladies and I have gotten together for interesting conversation, coffee, and cookies for many seasons. I can hardly wait to hear what Peg has been reading, what Jane has painted and written, Nancy’s many activities (I think she was interviewed on another radio program) how Carolyn did at War Eagle’s craft fair and how that inspired her to write, and their ideas on my progress of The Fright of the Silvery Moon.  Today, they will come through the fallen leaves in my yard bringing with them the invigorating feeling of creativity, purpose, and a lot of fun and laughter to go with that elusive fragrance of autumn.
