Summer!

Summer!

The summer solstice slipped up on me but here it is, once again. It’s the longest day and the shortest night of the year. After today, the days will ever so slowly begin to shorten and the nights will ever so slowly begin to lengthen. But, summer is here and it’s a beautiful day, so let’s rejoice in it.

Yesterday, my family increased by one small, furry kitten. So now, I have a grand-cat. She’s a pretty little brindle with maybe three or four different colors. She’s very lively and will brighten the household. I’ll let you know the progress of this little fellow or gal, whichever. We aren’t quite sure yet which.

Here’s an interesting thing–last year our local museum gave away heirloom weed seeds to those who wanted them. These were plants considered yummy to bees and butterflies. I planted them and they didn’t do anything but this year, two have come up. One is a tall, straight up and down plant with leaves but no limbs. I’ve no idea what it is. The other is a beautiful clump of black-eyed Susans. It brightens the flower garden. So many plants that we consider only weeds are helpful to wildlife as well as mankind.

Happy summer solstice to you and a happy summer!

  1. The flowers are pretty! I got some seeds from one of the charities I donate to, but forgot to plant them! Anyway, it’s hard to get used to more darkness after we’ve enjoyed more light.

    • Well, we’ll still have a lot of daylight for several months. I’m glad it all happens gradually instead of all at once.
