Storm Warning

Last night I was treated to a light show that only nature could provide. A thunderstorm was in progress and, even if I hadn’t seen the warning on the computer, I would have had a pretty good idea that it was a doozy. Thunder crackled and boomed and rain splatted on the deck. It was a good night for a cup of hot chocolate.

As I stood at the stove, waiting for the milk to warm, I glanced out of my kitchen window. Almost directly above me, lightning shivered constantly, revealing humps and clusters of menacing clouds, their shapes lit before and behind.  I didn’t see any bolts crackling toward the ground, but, instead, a brilliant, continuous dance through a troubled sky.

I stood there, entranced, and nearly forgot the warming milk. It was a view I won’t forget.

This morning clouds are beginning to clear away and I can actually see blue sky here and there. I’m grateful for the light show and a glimpse of what was happening, not all that far above me.

  1. Storms can be both awesome or frightening, depending if you’re outside or inside! You got quite a show!

  2. Nice muse. It stormed down here off and on all night long and into the morning. Nothing horrible, just thunder, lightning and rain.
