Remember I told you I’m taking a computer course? Yesterday, amazingly, I learned to do two things on my computer that are brand new to me. I realize that many of you knew how to put up sticky notes on your desk top and making mailing labels is old hat for you but not for me! I had no idea. Who’d a-thought it?
For quite a while now, I’ve had a sneaking suspicion that my computer could do a lot more than I’ve demanded of it. Maybe it’s because it sometimes looks bored when I begin typing. And, at times I hear something like a sigh when I log on and begin the usual, repetitive chores. Well, no more! This slightly past middle age graying grandma just put a new wrinkle in her brain.
In this day and time of terrific technology, I don’t have to run for those actual sticky notes to write reminders with an actual pencil and stick them on an actual refrigerator. No! I write virtual reminders and stick them on my virtual desk top and there they are! And, no more addressing actual envelopes with actual pens and using my poor old actual hand to do so. Not me! I can type an address once and run off bunches of them. For return labels, I can even add a picture of my book under my name and address. How about that?
It’s amazing what all this knowledge has done for my computer’s ego. This morning, it is holding up its little head in pride and is full of energy. At last it can break out of its shell of monotonous, humdrum chores and begin to flex its virtual muscles. I have a feeling that at the end of the next computer class, I will know more astounding tricks it can do and we, my computer and I, will be off and running!

You are way ahead of me, Blanche! By the way, did you realize that someone hacked my Facebook page? Created another one with my picture, etc. It was some sort of scam. I have changed my password and put up a couple of new pictures. One of the writers told me the fake page is not working and should be gone soon. This is also something that can be done on computers. There’s the good, the bad, and the ugly!!
I was afraid of that because I got a friend request from you; also from a niece who has been a Facebook friend for a long time. Next week we’ll be looking into things like that in the computer class too and I’ll be glad to learn more about how these dastardly people hack in!
Strong passwords are always good. Don’t use the same password for everything and don’t base it on the names of your family or include their birthdates.
This is sound advice and we should all heed it.
