Soggy Saturday

Soggy Saturday

The rain has washed almost all the snow off rooftops and grass. The ground drinks up the rain like a thirsty person downs a glass of water. The day is beginning in a dark, damp way and who knows what kind of weather will follow this soggy Saturday.

This morning I watched part of a Smithsonian documentary on the Hope Diamond. It has aired before but it’s always fascinating. Many years ago, I was at the Smithsonian Institution and I saw the Hope Diamond. It is a beautiful gem but not the biggest in the showcases. The stories and superstitions that surround the diamond are what make it fascinating to many people. It is said to have brought bad luck to each of its owners. Would I want to own it or wear it? Absolutely not! The Bible tells us not to believe in superstitions and I don’t. It’s just that I wouldn’t want anything to do with a diamond that has been associated with lots of terrible happenings.

It seems to me that superstitions or putting my faith in anyone or anything except God is sort of like the clouds that cover the sun. So this morning, my meandering mind wanders along many pathways, skipping from weather to diamonds to hopes for this day. God shines light on pathways and He is greater than all evil.
