Things are not always as they seem or even as they look. For instance, anyone at first glance, would think the daring, intrepid woman in the photo was a champion skate-boarder, a real skate-boarding granny. Wouldn’t you?
Well, if you squint your eyes a little and use your imagination, that thought could possibly cross your mind, don’t you think?
Of course, you will have to suspend disbelief and pretend the skate board is not inside on a carpet and you must not notice my hand is hovering within inches of the back of the sofa. Because, in reality, I climbed on that skateboard only at the urging of my grandchildren, as in, “Come on, Mem. It’s easy. You can do it.”
Which leads me to the prequel to Grave Heritage, Best Left Buried. As you know, the time draweth nigh for the release of Grave Heritage. In this mystery, Darcy and Flora experience the rainiest July in Levi’s history. They are living in their new house on Darcy’s Granny Grace’s acres.
But, wait! Before they get there, they, of course, have to dig a foundation and build the house. This happens in Best Left Buried, and leads to all the trouble. While digging the foundation, they discover an old secret which has been buried for decades and maybe should have stayed that way. However, it didn’t. And, when Darcy tracks down the mystery behind the discovery, she realizes that things are not as they seem. In fact, she has to look at several people in town in an entirely different light. However, Darcy being Darcy, and Flora being Flora, they are able to accept the truth and adjust to their new reality.
It’s good to be trusting and believing. It’s more peaceful to accept happenings at their face value, but, if you are a cozy mystery reader or writer, you realize this can be (if you’ll excuse the expression) boring. It’s a lot more intriguing and a lot more mysteries are written because, sometimes, things are really not the way they seem!
