Come with me for a small trip to another time this morning–an exciting time, well-remembered, of launching a brand new series, the Ned McNeil moonlight series with Ned’s first book, Moonlight Can Be Murder. This was a few years back.
The picture is, of course, of the Cozy Critters, who are reading my five cozies. Since that picture, I’ve written two more Ned books, bringing the total to seven.
This morning, my floors need mopping, my furniture needs dusting, and where am I? Well, Nemo, my staunch supporter and critic, and I are with Ned who, true to form, is about to get involved in another mystery and an old house. The house is empty, in need of tender love and care, and, as Ned nears it to take pictures, something zings by her ear. A bee? A bullet? Leave it to Ned to get into trouble in the eighth book.
Is there anything more heady and exhilarating than launching a brand new book? Well, sure, I guess there is–the birth of a baby is more exciting. But, is winning the lottery? Having never won that or even tried to,I’d have no idea, but it sounds like fun. Finding that an unknown, rich uncle had died and left me his multi-million dollar estate in Ireland might equate to releasing a new book onto the world of reading. And, if I ever got to go to the Kentucky Derby to watch the horses run, yes, that would be breathtaking. But would it be as thrilling as seeing a book I’ve written listed on Amazon and Barnes and Noble and other book stores? I’ll have to consider that.
