Rainy Morning

Lightning shivers across the the room and rain pounds harder. How much rain have we had this week? I’m not sure because my rain gauge broke and I haven’t yet replaced it. We’ve had a lot of rain and I’m grateful. And, true to April’s whimsical nature, there is a possibility of snow, Sunday.

The morning is peaceful even though parts of Arkansas has experienced the violence of wicked weather this week. This is spring and the weather is not to be trusted. It doesn’t stay one way or the other very long. I remember stormy times when I was young. For a while, we lived where we had no cellar and no access to one. We had really wicked storms then too. The sky would sometimes grow dark, almost black or a black/green. If we had seen a funnel dip down, you can bet we’d have scurried to the safest spot we could find. Luckily, that never happened.

So, into a soggy, dark Saturday. May it be a happy day for you, and all the mysteries you encounter be cozy ones.

  1. Very nice. Stirs the memories. We lived near Alma, Arkansas in the early 60’s – tornado alley. On summer day, we spotted 6 different tornadoes. We lived on a hill with a view. One night it was storming something awful and suddenly got still. Dad hollered “You kids get to the cellar. NOW!” We wasted no time heading out the back door for the cellar. As we came out the door, I looked up – right into the vortex of a tornado that had lifted over us. I’ll never forget that fluffy white donut with the iridescent center. We watched one come down on the other side of a field. Didn’t know it was a tornado, as there was no funnel – until it hit the ground. It suddenly took shape sucking limbs and leaves off trees.
