As the Rain Comes Down

As the Rain Comes Down

It’s a very good morning if you are a duck or a frog or – a writer. Rain is pouring and it’s a wonderful morning to travel to Ednalee, Oklahoma, and see what Nettie (or Ned, as her friends call her) is up to. In Ednalee, it’s not June, it’s December and Christmas is just around the corner. It’s a time for merriment and gift-giving but Ned finds it hard to feel festive because of – well, because of several rather unsettling situations.

Yesterday, when I left Ned, she was sitting at her dining table with her friends Pat and Jackie. Cade Morris,  the chief of police of Ednalee, had just arrived at the Granger house (named for Ned’s family) with really disturbing news. In fact, when she heard it, Ned choked on the coffee she was swallowing.

I have this feeling that when I take up Ned’s mystery again, she will be about to go to bed for the night. She will forget to hide away a ring that is lying on her dining table. She will trek up the stairs to her bedroom, followed by Penny, her Uncle Javin’s cat, and drop off into slumber. In the meantime, in the dark of night, while everything is quiet at the Granger house, the back door  will open and – oh, but I guess I’ll have to stop there take a peek at Ned. Yes, she’s still sound asleep.

Wherever you are this morning, I hope you find the day is perfect for doing something that you love. As for me, it’ll be fun to see how Nettie gets out of this one!
