It isn’t often that we in Northwest Arkansas get a visitor from the North Pole, well, except. of course, for Santa Claus. So far as I know, it is arriving uninvited and it is not a quiet type but makes itself known in a big way. The meteorologists are calling it a Polar Vortex. It is traveling a long distance but is not meeting with a warm welcome. Judging by the snow falling on top of the rain we had all night, it means business. At 6:00 a.m., the street is already covered.
When snow falls, the hibernation instinct kicks in. Snow is mesmerizing. All I want to do is sit and stare at it, coffee in hand, and wonder how many inches we’ll get. The high for tomorrow is forecast to be only 14 or 15 degrees. Now, that is some Polar Vortex!
I’m glad that mankind cannot control the weather. For one thing, we’d never agree on whether to have more or less rain, warmer or colder temps. I imagine that our puny efforts to try would only be laughed at by our Creator. Welcome or not, it looks to me like the Polar Vortex has arrived and we are going to have to make the best of it. I plan to enjoy the fireplace, keep the coffee pot busy, and, since I have to stay indoors, write! There’s no better time to continue writing that best-seller.
This is the scene out of my back door yesterday.
This is the scene out of my back door this morning. The snow did not cooperate by holding still, so those whitish streaks are how the wind is whipping it around.
love the squirrel picture
Thanks, Helen. By the way, if you ever run out of squirrels, I have a few dozen I’d be willing to share.
