Pesky, Pernicious Pests

Pesky, Pernicious Pests

He (She?) sat in the flower pot among the ruined stems of rose moss, contentedly chewing. Evidently he had just discovered that not only were the blooms delicious but the rest of it was pretty good too. And pulling it out of the ground? Well, that was fun!

It was not fun for me! I opened the door and the squirrel darted to the crepe myrtle bush, skittered up it and onto the roof. Oh, my goodness! My poor rose moss. I didn’t know that squirrels liked the taste. Did you? My poor plant has had it.

If anybody needs some cute, fluffy, energetic (I won’t mention destructive) squirrels to romp joyfully in their yard, let me know. I have an abundance. Squirrels are cute and entertaining and also downright nuisances and pests, especially when they proliferate.

My writing friend Barbara Martin has an interesting, informative and fun web site you should know about. She has kindly put the book trailer to Grave Shift on it. Thank you, Barbara. http://l.facebook.com/l/_AQE9wSGiAQGfnQU49MiyRWiD8rX224dpxFgvHfkx-92heA/www.folkstalesthings.com/trailers.html

Remember that Moonlight Can Be Murder is due to be released in November. I can hardly wait to share the beautiful book cover with you.

I hope you have a happy Tuesday. May all your encounters with squirrels be pleasant and your shelves chock full of cozy mysteries!

Hi Blanche. I know what you mean about the squirrels. They had a relay race going on with my peach and apple trees last year. One squirrel would be coming out of the tree with a big piece of fruit in its mouth and another would be running up the same tree to get a piece! I’ve tried everything to deter them from eating all the fruit, (and I had better luck this year), but it seems a hopeless battle. Not to mention we have an abundance of fruit eating deer and a bear that visits from time to time. Living in the foothills of the Virginia Blue Ridge Mountains has its beauty, but it has its challenges too!

    • Thanks for writing, Stacey. Yes, deer, squirrels, and I’m sure your bears too can be real pests. I have a brother who lives in Minnesota and one who lives in Oklahoma and the deer eat their gardens and flowers. However, it sounds as if you live in a truly beautiful place.
