It’s funny the way some simple thing will trigger a memory from long ago. This morning, as I measured water for the coffee pot, I remembered my junior high science teacher. (I told you it was long ago.) The thing I recall now, after all those years is Mr. Wasson’s gravelly voice and the way he would hold a beaker of liquid in front of his eyes to measure it. He said to always have it eye level, else I’d be looking down at it or up at it and the measurement wouldn’t be correct. As I measure coffee water, I remember.
Little things that stick with me–words, attitudes, a look, the sound of a voice, the memories that shape thoughts.
I remember kindnesses, courtesies and thoughtfulness. I also remember the negative stuff. The memories of harsh words or actions surface now and then too, but I try not to give them the time of day. Why should I? They do nothing constructive nor helpful, but cause a cloud to momentarily pass in front of the sun.
So many good, happy, honest things have happened and are happening. These are the things to remember and to smile about. They brighten the day, lighten thoughts, and give a little boost when it’s needed. These are the things and people from the past and present that I take with me. Good friends to have!
