Peaceful Sunday

Peaceful Sunday

If you haven’t yet subscribed to my Darcy, Flora, and Ned newsletter, you can do so by sending me an email at manosmeadows@sbcglobal.net. With each newsletter, I’ll give away a prize; there’ll be a recipe, publishing news, and other juicy tidbits.

A squirrel came out of nowhere. He flashed in front of my field of vision in an airborne leap, grabbing the bark of the maple, and skittering up to hide among the leaves. What caused such acrobatics? My answer came when a bluejay flew past, flying with a quiet purpose, sharp beak outstretched. I think there was a murderous glint in his eye but couldn’t tell for sure.

Squirrels are cute, lively, entertaining, and destructive–especially to birds’ eggs and babies. The squirrel was, doubtless, guilty of following some of his lesser impulses. With a plentiful supply of acorns from last year, he should stick to being herbivorous and forget about carnivorous.

No more exploding Coke cans last night. No things that go bump in the night, just a peaceful night for which I’m thankful. No storms, such as this one:

Above a hushed and waiting world, in high and windy spaces,

A rumbling, grumbling orchestra thunders through its paces.

Cascading notes in liquid tones, a stormy melody

Is played on cloudy instruments in summer’s symphony.

But then, I’ve always liked summer storms. Wherever you are, I hope your Sunday is a happy one, filled with the joy of many blessings.
