One-Two-Three, It’s Still Free

One-Two-Three, It’s Still Free

I feel like the Count on Sesame Street. One-Two-Three, It’s Still Free! Three! Three more days of By the Fright of the Silvery Moon being a free ebook on Amazon. My publishers really want you to take a look at this second Ned McNeil book, so that’s why they are offering it free–sort of priming the pump for Book Number Three. When you stop to think about it, that’s pretty much of a bargain–a whole lot of shivers with no monetary output.

I’ve really got to get back to the third Ned mystery this morning. I’ve downed a lot of cups of coffee, just sitting here thinking about it. Would you believe Ned has survived a tornado and then, that very night, someone tried to break into her house. Why? I think it’s because the intruder thinks Ned has something that could cost him a lot of money and a plantation. Of course, she doesn’t have it, but the intruder doesn’t know that. Thank goodness for Ulysses. That’s Ned’s dog. He’s quite the fierce protector and his barks and threatening growls scared the guy away.

I keep calling this mip (mystery in progress) Moonstruck and Murderous. But this is only a working title. I like the sound of it, but it sounds quite a bit like the first Ned book, Moonlight Can Be Murder. What do you think?

This morning is warm and murky. The clouds are drizzling rain. Lots of things going on in the world–the volcano in Hawaii keeps putting out rivers of molten rock and people are fleeing their homes. I would flee too, in fact, I would have fled a long time ago. Floods are ravaging Baltimore, people in Chicago are killing each other, earthquakes, wars, neighbor hating neighbor because of their politics. Oh, my! The list goes on. So, why am I talking about cozy mysteries in these turbulent times? Because sometimes it’s good to pick up a book, go to an imaginary place, have coffee with people you’d like to know, and see if you can solve a mystery before the protagonist does. Yes, cozy mysteries definitely have their place in this confusing world. Now, back to Ned. She often finds the world confusing, but she doesn’t give up. And, you know what? In the end, the bad guy always loses and the good guy always wins.
