One Step at a Time

As I look out of my window on the world, I am grateful to be able to see another springtime. This one seems especially lovely because I almost didn’t get to see it. I recently came home after two months (TWO months) in the hospital due to a severe lack of sodium which triggered all kinds of other problems. But, due to the goodness of the Lord and my wonderful family, I’m home and I can celebrate just being alive.

How can one forget how to walk after two months in a hospital bed? I don’t know–I thought I’d cleared that hurdle many decades ago. So, with wheel chair and walker and a physical therapist, I’m re-learning how to put one foot in front of the other without toppling. Even my speech–finally, I’ve graduated from not being able to retrieve the word I want back to being able to talk like a magpie.

With my therapist,I took my first walk outside this week and found that the herbs from last year are up. Yea! And, the Iris that I was afraid had died, have hardy-looking buds. Spring has definitely sprung and, thanks to the Lord and my terrific family, who have gone beyond anything I could ask for, I am here to celebrate.
