…even in Texas! Cozy Critter Judy is planning to move back to her home, which happens to be that great state of Texas! Yesterday’s meeting may have been her last at the old cherry wood table with the rest of us Critters. Jane wrote and framed a wonderful poem which included many of the things that spell “Judy”. She illustrated the poem with a picture of all of us Cozy Critters, so Judy won’t forget us.

Since Tuesday was Judy’s birthday, we enjoyed cupcakes with her initial on the frosting. And, we used my mother’s red glass, in honor of Valentine’s Day.
Although she dreads leaving her friends in NWArkansas, Judy is looking forward to being near her children and grandchildren. An amazing thing is that a friend in her Texas town is starting a writers’ group. So, she is leaving this one but going to a Texas group of writers. “God is laying it all out,” Judy said. We agreed. He certainly is. However, we will miss her–a lot.
Giving Up My Motherhood Badge is the name of Helen’s inspirational piece which Vision Magazine bought for their Mother’s Day issue, front page. This article has it all: humor, insight, inspiration and is honestly one of the best-written stories I’ve ever read. In addition to this already-published story, Helen read four more works in progress, I Longed to Be Somebody, The Gift, Good Measure, and I Wanna Go Swimming.
“What have you been reading, Peg?” I asked. “Grave Heritage” she promptly replied. And, that, dear readers, is my book! Peg was one of my first readers for Grave Heritage. She has a discerning eye and can spot things that could be said a different way, a better way, or not at all. She is also reading Town in a Cinnamon Toast by B. B. Haywood. This series is about a woman who was a newspaper editor but quit to help her father on his blueberry farm. The books are well plotted with nicely-developed characters. Town in a Blueberry Jam is another in this series.
Lucy Arlington is one of Peg’s favorite authors. She particularly liked Off the Books by this author.
I shared with them that Grave Shift is now available as an audio book on ACX and will be on Amazon soon. Grave Heritage is with Pen-L Publishers. The Critters asked to hear a couple of more chapters of this last book, so I read the chapter which included the mysterious red rose, and the chapter where Darcy encounters one of the more dangerous inhabitants of Ventris County. The Critters’ response is always gratifying.
So ended our Valentine critique. Already, I’m looking forward to the next one and to hearing what each of these creative and energetic ladies has been reading and writing.
