No Price Tag

No Price Tag

Riches in abundance;

Joys beyond compare.

No price is upon them;

I find them everywhere.

Yesterday was one of those rare days, a day to look back on. My two brothers and I were together along with my one remaining sister-in-law and a dear niece and nephew I see only rarely. The occasion was a solemn one, a time of going through boxes and stacks and collections that represented a lifetime, a period in life that had come to a close, a time to look back and a time to move on. The good thing was we were all six together. We reminisced, caught up on current happenings, laughed and talked. We ate McDonald’s hamburgers and drank Cokes in between packing boxes. Lunch was delicious! Why? It was that togetherness thing again.

A thunderstorm came up. We saw the dark clouds approaching from the southwest.

“We’ve got to hurry,” we said. “We need to take the boxes out to the car. We can’t let them get wet.”

Thunder grumbled, lightning warned us to get inside and the first fat, heavy raindrops fell. Picture and quote simple things

The day drew to a close with a good feeling. Even though it may be a while before we are all together again, we’ll have this day to look back on. It was a time of remembering and looking to the future and being thankful–a time of togetherness, moments that don’t come with a price tag because they were freely given and freely received.

  1. Wish I could hang out with the family! Love your poem!

  2. As i treasured the help you and Richard and Linda gave (even though i teased uncle Richard about it!) Freely given by you and freely and gratefully received by me!! Thank you so, so much!

    • You know, Missy, it was a privilege to be there with you all. So good to be together again. A sober, remembering occasion but a joy to be able to do even a little bit.
