Today is the first day of fall! Can you believe that summer has officially passed and now we are into the dwindling down of the year? Just so you know (and I’m sure you already do) Christmas is only three months and two days away. But, this is a brand-new season, and the outlook is good. We had rain last night.
Last night, my Minnesota brother and I were talking about fall and trying to compose poetry. I don’t think our efforts will win any prizes: If the first day of fall is cold, winter will be bold. We liked the second try better: If the first day of fall is warm, winter will do no harm. In his part of Minnesota, leaves are starting to turn beautiful colors. When the colored leaves are among the white-trunked birches, tall pines, and are backed by a beautiful, clear lake, they are spectacular.
In honor of fall, yesterday’s Sunday lunch consisted of white chili (one of my family’s favorites) cornbread, salad, butter cookies and chocolate chip cookies. All topped off with iced tea.
Flowers are starting to wind down, but my sweet potato vine has one small, perfect bloom. Today, I plan to freeze some of that lovely okra from Richard and Linda’s garden. It’ll be yummy this winter. Another season is just around the corner.
