Yesterday, I took my camera with me as I went for a walk through the neighborhood. Winter time trees are beautiful because their symmetry is starkly visible without the covering of leaves. A certain tree with white bark stood out against the blueness of sky, a silent, regal guardian of its domain. In summer, fully leafed, its uniqueness is not so noticeable.
Farther up the sidewalk, a large, old walnut tree rose beside a house. I’ve always admired that tree. The ice storm a few years go did not damage it as it damaged so many trees. When I look at the tree, I wish it could tell me stories of how the town has grown during its lifetime. I have a feeling that when it was a seedling, there was no house beside it and the busy street in front was far in the future. It may have looked down on farmers traveling to town in horses and wagons.
Before I trudged back up the hill toward home, a car stopped beside me. It was Peg and we chatted a few minutes. It was a pleasant ending to a neighborhood walk, for enjoying the beauty of a winter day.

This is the second of the Darcy and Flora series and, from what I hear, the third audio book, Best Left Buried, is in the near future! The first audio book, The Cemetery Club, is available on Amazon right now!
