Nature’s Surprise

Nature’s Surprise

This morning as I looked out at my front yard flower garden, I saw three small mushrooms or toadstools, I don’t know which. That’s not too surprising except that last night, they weren’t there. They are maybe three or four inches tall. I know that’s what mushrooms do–they spring up quickly. I wonder if I had stayed up and watched, if I could have seen them growing?

I don’t know the difference between mushrooms and toadstools. I know that some varieties are deadly poison. And, I know that I’d never try to choose the edible ones. No way! I’ll leave that to the experts.

Nature has many surprises, like the mushrooms. Secrets, really. Mysteries! I do like mysteries and sometimes it’s nice to have some that remain just that–mysteries. Maybe that’s why I enjoy reading and writing my own. Sometimes my mysteries are like the mushrooms–they spring up suddenly, appearing out of nowhere. When they do, I have no choice but to write them!

  1. Amazing to see something out of nothing so soon! And I agree about not picking mushrooms to eat. I rely on the stores to know the difference lol

    • Thanks for writing, Morgan. Yes, mushrooms are amazing little things. I remember only once eating mushrooms that a family member had picked in her woods. She did know about them and I trusted her wisdom on that. However, I can’t say that I really enjoyed eating them, though they were delicious. I kept thinking, “Oh, my! What if…”
