Moon Eclipse

Moon Eclipse

I almost missed the eclipse last night. Matt called and asked me to come and watch with them. This was a little after 9:00. So, I hurried over. They were in deck chairs on the sidewalk, looking upward, so I joined them. Wow! What a heavenly show.

No fireworks, no flashing lights, no background music; just the slow, inexorable march of the earth’s shadow across a full harvest moon. I think maybe it was the silence that impressed me most. Nothing mankind could do would change it one iota; the eclipse was something only God could do. As I sat there with my family, gazing upward, I thought that this is the way with God’s laws. They are from eternity to eternity. They do not change. They have ever been and ever will be.

I had forgotten to take my camera but Dawn had hers and I think she got some really good pictures. So, I hurried back home, grabbed my camera, and trotted out to the middle of my street. My neighbor was there too, gazing upward but I didn’t see him until he spoke. Everything was so very dark.

As I peered through my camera, I could not see the moon. Odd! So, I pointed in the general direction and snapped. Hurrying to my deck, I did the same. Only thing was, trees were in my way there. Oh, well! At least I got a few grainy mementos of an event that won’t happen again for eighteen more years.005 (2)

If you missed the seeing the total eclipse of the moon, you missed a really amazing display of the grandeur of an event that only God could orchestrate.

I know that, whatsoever God doeth, it shall be forever” (Ecclesiastes 3:14).

Comments

  1. I couldn’t go out to see it because surrounded by trees and I would of had to walk a block to open area and that wasn’t feasible to stand in the street so I, am enjoying everyones pictures

It was pouring rain in Henry, VA and we missed this special event. Thank you for posting photos.

  3. I watched it at various times last night and it was amazing.
Last night was special because one of the last eclipses was in 1946, the year of my birth and yesterday was my birthday.

    • Happy birthday a day late, Linda! That was truly a special event for you. Not many people can say the moon went into eclipse to celebrate! I think that is wonderful!
