An Explanation for Those Surprise Flowers That Spring Up
You may not have heard of Miss Hollyhock, , but she must exist, because there is no other explanation for the flowers that spring up here and there, in the most unusual places, without having been planted.
Miss Hollyhock is a tiny, gray-haired sprite who is invisible to all but the most discerning eye and she has the ability to travel long distances in a single bound. In her basket she carries a variety of seeds; sunflowers, daisies, Queen Anne’s Lace, and hollyhocks. She smiles as she flits about, scattering those seeds, thinking of the surprise on the faces of those who one day will notice a stalk of blooms which are growing and blooming unexpectedly.
She has been to my yard more than once. One year she planted lovely sunflowers. They grew and blossomed and were a bright addition. And then of course, she plants lots and lots of hollyhocks. They must be her favorite flower.
Miss Hollyhock likes to travel when the moon is full and everyone is sleeping. You might catch a glimpse of her if you glance out of your window on a sleepless night. Or not. She is awfully shy but you’ll know once she has been to visit.
