It’s strange–the things which have no physical substance but which affect our lives. No one would doubt that shadows exist. When the sun shines on an object, that object casts a shadow. We can’t pick up the shadow or smell it or hear it, but we feel it. The sun is where it has always been, up in the sky beaming down on earth, but, because of the shadow, we can’t see the light and the whole world seems dark and gloomy, scary. Worries are like this. Worries are shadows cast by something that is keeping the light from getting through.
Life seems full of clouds that can keep the sunlight out. Worries about this or that; the past, the future, the here and now–there are plenty of things to darken our days. The thing we must remember is that worries don’t benefit anyone–they can’t change things, all they can do is ruin an otherwise bright day. I recall an adage which was true a long time ago and it’s true today: Worry is interest paid on borrowed trouble.
When days are dark and it seems that the sun won’t shine again, remember that the clouds are only temporary; the sun is lasting. When faith seems shaky, God is still there, like the sunlight. Even if we can’t see Him, He hasn’t deserted us and those shadows? They’ll disappear.
Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God. (Psalm 42:11)
Hang on Joy comes in the Morning. That is what I try to hang on to in dark times
