Remember this old jingle? “Let’s have another cup of coffee. Oh, let’s have a cup of Nescafe.” That long ago ad was meant to put people in the mood for a chat, a warm, easy beginning to a new day or a friendship. That’s the sort of feeling I hope my cozy mysteries evoke.
Cozies are a brand unto themselves. They are the written version of a warm visit with friends, sharing a cup of coffee or tea, a crackling fireplace, chatting about a problem and reaching a solution, or talking about nothing at all. Cozies are where friends get together.
Readers should be able to trust the book they delve into, just as they trust their friends. They realize there may be some spooky moments, some downright scary episodes, and spine-tingling danger, but hey! Friends go through these things together! Just as it’s a little sad when friends part for a while, it’s kind of sad to finish a good cozy.
These are a few cozies I’ve enjoyed lately. You may like to read them too, if you haven’t already:
The Ginseng Conspiracy by Susan Bernhardt, Raven Rock by Mignon F. Ballard, Strong Poison by Dorothy L. Sayers, and Cold Case Conundrum by Sharon Rose.
When summer’s heat invites one to stay inside by the air conditioner, what better time to pick up a cozy and go for a visit with friends?

Come on over for a cup of coffee!
Yes, I agree. To decide to use one’s valuable time, one expects the experience to be worthwhile, interesting, even fulfilling. Like joining friends for lunch and gossip…if you don’t learn anything new, why having spent the time?
You are absolutely right, Kathleen. Thanks for writing.
