Lessons Learned From Nemo

Lessons Learned From Nemo

I like to think I’ve taught Nemo a lot, but I know for sure I’ve learned many lessons from him. These are only a few:

Food is good. It is to be enjoyed without guilt or worry about calories.

Relaxation fuels the body, mind and spirit; any place is a good place to relax.

Each new day is a gift and gifts are met with enthusiasm and eagerness.

When failing to catch a much-desired prize (squirrel) it’s no time to be down in the dumps but to wait for the next opportunity.

There are plenty of sights to be seen and scents to be smelled even on a short jaunt to the mailbox.

Always be alert to new experiences and ready to meet them with great fervor or ignore the unpleasant ones.

Some things cannot be avoided (a trip to the vet) and are best dealt with as graciously as possible without snapping or growling.

Understand that no one is perfect and when a slight occurs (running out of treats) it’s best to forgive and move on.

Be grateful for the little things (and in Nemo’s world, little things are big things) like shelter, a warm bed, good food, kind words, and pats and hugs.

Don’t be deterred by obstacles (snow, a leash, rain, mud) in the path of a desired goal (squirrels) but keep on keeping on.

Mysteries are everywhere and curiosity about those mysteries is a good thing but be careful when poking a nose into unexplored territories.

Listen carefully when someone is sharing something that is important; don’t act bored or restless, but pay attention.

Don’t bark when silence is the preferred response.

Don’t dwell on past failures and don’t hold grudges; life is too short and exciting to look back.

Meet each day with a wag and a woof and shining eyes, looking forward to fun, food, friends, and frolic.

Remember that today at 2:00 at the Springdale Library, there’ll be a gathering of around thirty-five authors and more books than you can shake a stick at. No matter what your taste, you’re sure to find something in your preferred genre. Christmas draweth nigh. Books are appreciated and long-lasting gifts. Ten of us will be giving readings. We’d all like to meet you. Come on over and join in the fun.
