Leaves, Books, and Red-tailed Hawks

Leaves, Books, and Red-tailed Hawks

I have a riddle for you. What is not quite like a cozy but is still very good? The answer: The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie. This is a CD that Peg recently listened to and enjoyed. The author is Alan Bradley. Peg is looking forward to The Weed That Strings the Hangman’s Bag. She hasn’t heard it yet but expects she will enjoy it. I doubt that you will find duplicate titles listed on Amazon.

Jane treated us to a delightful poem she titled Let Little Creatures Live. Her granddaughter is going to illustrate it. I’m looking forward to the finished book/poem. I’m sure it’ll be great.

True to my expectations, Helen brought more writing successes. She has recently sold three inspirational pieces to Vision. They are The Right Thing; Come, Let us Adore Him; and Enthralled. We also critiqued her four new devotionals that will, no doubt, find a home in a Christian periodical.

Although Nancy couldn’t be with us, she emailed that she had met with her publisher at a recent Christian Writers’ Conference and she came away much encouraged. She was also privileged to sit in on workshops by editors from Focus on the Family, Charisma Magazine, and The Upper Room.

I confided to the Cozy Critters my feelings about the publishing process, the hopes, the dreams, and the reality. Delicious homemade cookies that Helen brought, hot, fresh-brewed Folgers, and a warm feeling of friendship and acceptance made us temporarily forget the cold day outside.

My white mulberry tree has dropped almost all its leaves in one gigantic shudder. The ground is carpeted with yellow and orange from the maples, front and back.

An interesting post script to the day: glancing out my kitchen window, I saw a large, red-tailed hawk sitting in a bush by the bird bath. In a timely manner,  all the smaller birds  vanished. I’m sure they were hidden, tiny hearts beating a tattoo against feathered breasts, hardly daring to breathe until their dangerous kinsman with the hooked beak and sharp talons decided to return to them the back yard and the sunflower seeds and fly on to other parts.
