KOVLV

KOVLV

I’m  happy to announce my second guest post on Whiskey Tales will be up tomorrow morning.  Thank you, Maria Norcia Santillanes.

We need an association or club or something to keep our vacant lots vacant (KOVLV). Just as sure as there’s a nice, green area in town with wildflowers growing on it and bees and butterflies inhabiting it, somebody gets the bright idea that we need another bank or another emergency care facility or something else. In my humble opinion, we have enough of those things but far too little of natural habitat. Then we wonder why mosquitoes and hot weather proliferate? There’s no room for anything else. Too much good soil is covered in concrete, never to feel another raindrop or bask in the sunshine or keep rain from running off into street flooding.

Speaking of flowers, the wild hickory is blooming now. It is hardy and tenacious, grabbing a spot of dirt and raising its blue petals to the sun. It is such a cheerful plant and grows where it hasn’t been planted.

Maybe if there were more green areas, butterflies, wildflowers, honey bees and bumble bees, people would look happier and smile a little more. I saw a woman in the parking lot of the food store yesterday. She must have been about my age and she was admirably tall and slender. However, when I glanced at her face, she looked like she had swallowed a tart lemon, whole. I know, I know. I shouldn’t be critical ’cause perhaps she was facing some trouble or problems that I didn’t know about. But honestly, there’s nothing very natural or beautiful about a concrete parking lot and perhaps she was thinking the same thing.

Anyway, those are my wandering thoughts this Saturday morning. Don’t think I’m a grouch or ungrateful for blessings; ’tisn’t true.003 I’m thankful for many, many people and blessings.

  1. That is soooo true. I love driving by a beautiful green pasture with nice, sedate cows grazing. We’ve lost too many of the green areas to progress.

Yes, me too, Peg. Thing of it is, those grassy or woodsy areas are really important. If we don’t have honeybees (and many municipalities seem determined to wipe them out with spraying insecticides) we won’t have fruits or vegetables. Grass and trees cool the environment, the birds help get rid of insects…I could go on!
