How could a father just walk away from his child and abdicate his role as mentor and protector? Was Jasper’s habit of roaming the woods a result of searching for something to fill the void Walter left? — Darcy Campbell in Grave Heritage.
Sometimes Darcy waxes philosophical but then, so does Flora. In this instance, Darcy was standing in a cemetery and, at such times, we may entertain questions or perhaps, eternal truths. But Darcy’s question was a valid one; how do people turn their backs on responsibility? I wonder why about a lot of things and that’s one of them.
Grave Heritage is in the hands of my publisher. I have poked and prodded, snipped here, added there, worried, fretted, rejoiced and wept and now, we shall see. Darcy and Flora came through some tough times in this book, some unusual, frightening times. I don’t have to wonder why I feel worn out; I was right there with them!
You see, it was the rainiest July in memory and Lee Creek kept rising as did the Ventris River. Even the animals seemed restless.
You remember Miss Georgia and Miss Carolina from Best Left Buried? Their white Persian cat, Miss Kitty, is introduced in Grave Heritage. Fran’s Miss Kitty was the inspiration for the fictitious Miss Kitty. Of course, Darcy and Flora’s cat, Jethro, keeps an eye on things. And Ben Ventris’ redbone hound, Murphy, still lives with Pat and Jasper.
Tomorrow is our regular meeting of the Cozy Critters. It’ll be a special time. I can hardly wait to hear what each lady has been up to. They are a creative and fun group.
I just can’t wait to read the new book.
Thanks, Deb. I hope you enjoy it.
Your poking, prodding, snipping, adding, worrying, fretting, rejoicing, and weeping were well worth it! Grave Heritage is a terrific book!
And I thank you for your discerning eyes, Teresa. You, Missy, Linda, and Peg pointed out typos, and asked pointed questions and generally sharpened it and I’m grateful!
