Just Wait a While

Yesterday, the heat was intense as Nemo and I filled bird baths in the back yard. We waited until the front yard was in the shade of trees and house before watering those flowers. The black-eyed Susan was wilting after a punishing day in the sun. I’m pretty sure I heard her say, Thank you, for the welcome drink.

Remember the old saying, Ne’er trust a July sky? Well, sure enough, as darkness fell, so did a few raindrops. That didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of those who had waited a whole year to light up the sky with fireworks, but nature eclipsed them with a few of her own. When all was said and done, my flowers and the rest of the area got a really good soaking from a much needed rain. This morning is cooler than yesterday and what a relief!

There’s an old saying that it never rains during the night in July. So, last night, that old saying crumbled in the dust and I was glad to see it go!
