Just Imagine!

Is this an age of enlightenment or a return to the Dark Ages? Hopefully, it is neither and probably I’m the only one in the whole world who would ask. A definition of the Dark Ages is “the time after the fall of the Roman Empire, marked by intellectual, economic, and cultural decline.” Whereas in the 1700s, a movement across Europe stressed “reason, skepticism, secularism, and individualism.” That’s a lot of “isms.”

Or maybe this time period could be classified as a mixture of both or neither. My questioning comes from observing what is now being declared good, right, and beautiful. Once, not so long ago, these same observations would be described as wrong, bad, and ugly.

Many times, I’m reminded of the very old tale, The Emperor’s New Clothes. If you’ve never read it or need to refresh your memory about it, please do. I think the main point of the story is to be honest, not to be afraid of being a non-comformist and of speaking the truth even when it’s uncomfortable.

These are my thoughts on this rainy morning and I’m so grateful for the rain. My flowers and herbs are grateful and, I’m sure I speak for the birds when I say, “thank You God.” And, although it’s rather dark this morning as are my thoughts, I’m pretty sure that doesn’t signify a return to those murky years of long ago.

  1. Yes, these days what’s right is considered wrong by those who wish to push their agendas on everyone. It’s a sad time.
